Yes & N0 #02:04

As Theatre Season gets into full swing the 8th Edition of YES & NO presents an exclusive collaboration with BRIGITTE LACOMBE who goes behind-the-scenes to photograph arguably the four most prestigious theatre companies working in the world today.

Comédie-Française General Manager, ÉRIC RUF, and IVO VAN HOVE, avant-garde experimental Belgian-born theatre director, are in conversation with editor CASSIUS MATTHIAS. Ruf and van Hove talk about their collaboration and re-igniting MOLIÉRE’s COMÉDIE-FRANÇAISE, which returns to the UK for the first time in nearly 20 years.

We spotlight MALY DRAMA THEATRE (MDT), ST PETERSBURG, headed by Creative Director LEV DODIN. Alongside LACOMBE’s behind-the-scenes photos of Chekhov’s UNCLE VANYA in St Petersburg, this feature also spotlights MDT’s dress rehearsal of Schiller’s LOVE AND INTRIGUE at the BROOKLYN ACADEMY OF MUSIC, New York.

This year sees Oscar-nominated French actress ISABELLE HUPPERT as MARY STUART in ROBERT WILSON’s World Premiere of MARY SAID WHAT SHE SAID at the Théàtre de la Ville, ESPACE CARDIN, in Paris. LACOMBE’s powerful portraits of HUPPERT during a private rehearsal give us a glimpse into her process of what is sure to be a towering performance and tour de force when it tours Europe until the end of 2019.
